We had the honor of attending amfAR’s Inspiration Gala last night at the New York Public Library. Hosted by Kylie Minogue, the event honored Ricky Martin and fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier for their international contribution to AIDS research.
Cheyenne Jackson MCed a leather-inspired fashion show with supermodels Noah Mills (Kim Cattrall’s boy-toy in Sex and the City 2), Tyson Beckford, and Alex Lundqvist as celebrities including Marc Jacobs, Lance Bass and Zoe Saldana looked on.
Kylie Minogue served as host at the dinner, first introducing amfAR’s Chairman of the Board Kenneth Cole then presenting an award to Jean Paul Gaultier (famous for designing Madonna’s gold cone bra in 1990). She then presented Ricky Martin with his award, who gave a touching speech about meeting a 12 year old girl in Cambodia who had been sold into the sex trade and contracted AIDS (The Ricky Martin Foundation works to prevent human trafficking). Martin promised he was going to go back to Cambodia and give his award to her. (When Kylie auctioned off a backstage meet and greet with Ricky at one of his New York concerts, he added an extra at the last minute – they both sold for $28,000!).
MAC VIVA GLAM Spokesperson Cyndi Lauper, fresh from her appearance on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice, performed Just Your Fool from her new album Memphis Blues (the same song she performed on the Celebrity Apprentice finale). Then she brought Kelly Rowland and Estelle up on stage to sing Girls Just Want to Have Fun, followed by True Colors that she dedicated to a friend who had died from AIDS.
